Carter Receives 2012 Impact Award for The Banks

Firm received at NAIOP’s “Night of the Stars” award program

Carter has won the 2012 Impact Award from NAIOP for The Banks, a landmark mixed-use project Carter is developing in downtown. Carter received the award Thursday from NAIOP’s Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky chapter at the NAIOP Night of Stars ceremony.

WLWT Channel 5’s George Vogel, EMCEE for the event, presented the award to Carter during the ceremony at Drees Pavilion across the Ohio River in Covington, Ky.

“Carter is honored to receive this award for The Banks, a project that is important not only to Carter, but to the city of Cincinnati as well,” said Jim Shelton, vice chairman of Carter. “We look forward to continuing to develop this project, with Phase II scheduled to begin in April 2013.”

Carter completed the $82 million first phase of The Banks in 2011. The $600 million, mixed-use development has continued to gain traction, with the 1,200 apartment units fully leased and the retail portion close to full as well. Tenants include a mixture of dining options, ranging from Johnny Rockets to Ruth Chris Steakhouse, as well as two live music venues.

“The Banks, which opened in 2011, already has positively impacted downtown Cincinnati in a way that’s exceeded expectations,” Carter President Scott Taylor said. “The Banks is transforming 18 acres between Great American Ballpark and Paul Brown Stadium into a thriving mixed-use project teeming with new residents, restaurants, retail and visitors.”

The Night of the Stars recognizes some of the individuals that have been leaders in the Greater Cincinnati commercial real estate market, as well as some of the past year’s notable real estate deals. NAIOP spotlights commercial real estate companies that take risks and are at the top of their game. The people and companies recognized at the Night of the Stars have managed to create significant value this year, with real estate projects that encourage new jobs and investment.
