Carter began its first off-campus student housing development project in the summer of 2012. The project became known as Highland Square, located at Ole Miss in Oxford, MS, and has now evolved into a beautiful place to live, study and play for hundreds of students. The community is spread across 60 acres and features a town center modeled after Oxford’s historic downtown square. Unlike traditional student apartments, Highland Square is made of a mix of townhomes, cottages and flats.

Highland Square was delivered in phases to accommodate incoming students for the fall semester at Ole Miss. The Carter team boldy made this happen; Michelle Willis, guest relations coordinator in Carter’s corporate office, was part of the “all hands on deck” crew that spent 10 days on-site during the move-in process. She told us, “I was proud to work alongside the project team, everyone wanted it done the right way (not the routine) and I felt like I was able to really contribute and play a part in the success of the project’s delivery.”

Today, the project’s 753 beds are nearly 100% leased. The community’s students are active, from bicycling to dog-walking, from shooting hoops to hanging out in one of the many common areas. Highland Square residents get to ultimately “Live Better” every day.
