1. How did you end up in this industry?
When I graduated from college my first job was in public accounting and one of our clients at Arthur Andersen was Paragon, a large real estate developer. They made me an offer that I couldn’t refuse and I’ve been working in some facet of the real estate industry ever since – from development to brokerage at Cushman & Wakefield and now acquisition and underwriting at Carter Validus.

2. What’s one thing that people would be surprised to learn about you?
I won a hula hoop contest once – which is pretty surprising since I’m not known for being very coordinated.

3. Best part of your job here at Carter?
Every day is different. In underwriting, we evaluate several different transactions, each with its own set of opportunities and challenges. It is a big sense of accomplishment for everyone on the team when we identify one that meets our criteria, the terms are negotiated and the transaction closes.

4. Who has been the most influential person in your career?
My husband – he’s a great partner, a good listener and always pretty objective.

5. Where in the world are you headed on your next vacation?
Skiing in Breckenridge, CO in February. I am only an average skier but love the mountains and welcome the chance to see snow since it is pretty rare here in Tampa.

6. What did you want to grow up to be?
An author or journalist. I love to read and have always appreciated all types of writing – fiction, non-fiction and even poetry.

7. If you could have lunch with a famous person – dead or alive – who would it be and why?
The Barefoot Contessa from the Food Network – she could make us lunch and share some of her cooking secrets.

8. Are you a social media user? Which platforms?
I’m active on LinkedIn.

9. What’s on your bucket list that you’d like to share?
Guitar lessons – my parents made me take piano lessons when I was growing up and I can read music, but I think it would be really great to be able to pick out a few tunes on the guitar.

10. Favorite thing about Tampa?
Gasparilla, our annual pirate festival which is sort of like Tampa’s answer to Mardi Gras. It kicks off in January with the “pirate invasion” and is celebrated through March with three different parades, including a night parade, krewe balls and parties, a 5K run, music festival and an art show. Everyone dresses up like pirates and generally gets into the spirit with all sorts of fun pirate-y debauchery. Tampa has been holding the event since 1904.
