USF Tenant MiMedx Group Fuels Positive Growth

By Bill Morrison

IMG_0912  On my flight to Tampa Tuesday, I read about the growth and expansion of MiMedx Group Inc. on the front page of Atlanta Business Chronicle. In the article, technology reporter Urvaksh Karkaria says the Marietta, Ga.-based maker of orthopedic and spine implants plans to raise $10 million.

The article was of particular interest because the purpose of my trip was to meet with the University of South Florida Research Foundation about expanding its research park, which Carter has been managing and developing over the past seven years.

MiMedx is a former occupant of the USF Tampa Bay Incubator and is a current tenant in the USF Connect building, both of which Carter developed in the research park.

My trip, and the driver for the research park expansion, is the growth of MiMedx and their research peers that need more laboratory and incubator space to create jobs and solve medical and technology problems.

In an environment of layoffs, business closures, and economic uncertainty, it is reassuring to know there are still positive developments in our business world. It is also really exciting that Carter is a part of providing resources and space for the growth, and re-birth, of our economy.
